Hey!  It’s Christmas, perhaps you’re thinking of buying yourself a new iPhone?  Question is do you buy the recently launched iPhone 17 or a flagship model from previous years?

 

Critics are saying the new iPhone 17 is the best iPhone in ages, worth buying in preference to earlier models like the 16e which is still readily available.

So what’s all the fuss about…?

  • Base storage capacity is 256GB, there’s no 128GB option
  • The 17 might look like some older models but the display is bigger at 6.3” as opposed to 6.1” due to slimmer bezels
  • That 6.3” Super Retina XDR display is brighter (3k nits up from 2k nits) and easier to see thanks to a 7 layer anti-glare coating
  • The upgraded Ceramic Shield 2 front with 3x scratch resistant means your 17 stays looking mint for longer
  • Most new iPhones offer better cameras so richer photos and videos in tricky conditions, the new 17 is no exception. We like the 17’s selfie camera with Center Stage for photos and video calls which, as the name suggests, keeps your face in frame as you move.  Also, if you can switch from landscape to portrait without turning the phone
  • There’s little point having a beautiful display and cracking camera if your new iPhone is slow and laggy. Good news!  The 17 has the new A19 chip and ProMotion technology – faster than Santa’s sleigh!

iPhone 17 or 17 Pro…?

  • If you’ve been good not naughty perhaps you deserve an iPhone 17Pro but are they worth the extra c£300?
  • Our second favourite feature you don’t get on the 17 is the 17Pro’s additional Ultra Wide 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera
  • If you’re using all those cameras to shoot video the Pro gives you Dolby Vision playback up to 4K at 120 frames per second
  • The 17Pro is slightly heavier but tougher with an aluminum unibody and a Ceramic Shield back panel
  • The 17Pro will go longer and faster with an extra hour of video playback and the enhanced A19 Pro chip is cooled by a vapour chamber
  • And our favourite 17Pro feature? It’s available in Cosmic Orange!
